In 1938, the Chairs of Algebra and that of Geometry were formed in the Department of Mathematics and Physics of Yerevan State University and were headed by academician A. Shahinyan, and Professor J. Khojanetyan, respectively. In 1944, the two chairs were merged into a single Chair of Algebra and Geometry. Since 1944 to 1973, N. Gasparyan was the head of the Chair. He was succeeded by L. Matevosyan (1974-1979), E. Mirzakhanyan (1980-1985) and Professor Yu. Movsisyan (1986-2013). Since 2013, Professor V.Atabekyan is the head of the Chair.
The chair of Algebra and Geometry runs the graduate program of “Algebra, Geometry”.
