Restructure and modernize haemotology teaching in BSc life sciences programs and medical degrees throughout the South Caucasus. 

Develop said programs to match European standards and those of the ECTS, utilizing cutting-edge technology.

Improve the quality of education and expand high-skilled professional staff numbers in said fields.

Program Objectives

Improve the quality of teaching and update curricula in haemotology throughout the South Caucasus republics.

Develop new curricula.

Re-equip laboratories with cutting-edge technologies.

Develop curricula in haemotology with the blended-learning approach using e-learning resources, and develop assessment schemes for life sciences and medical qualifications in the South Caucasus republics.

Train teaching staff from universities in the South Caucasus republics at EU universities.

Set up a Caucasian Regional Platform (CARPH) in haemotology

Disseminate the project’s outcomes to benefit its sustainability.

Program Summary

The program is aimed at developing Yerevan State University’s higher education program, strengthening its ties with universities in the South Caucasus and in Europe, and improving the professional quality of teaching staff.

Modern haemotology training involves understanding the principles and the interpretation of a wide range of laboratory procedures, based on sound knowledge of the basic sciences. This is a subject of expertise where fundamental (life sciences) knowledge and medicine converge. The wider objective of the project is to restructure and modernize haemotology curricula for life science and medical degrees in the Southern Caucasus and harmonize it with European standards using the ECTS system. This will be achieved through innovative technologies that should dramatically increase the quality of teaching and the number of highly skilled professional staff in the Southern Caucasus.

To this end we are planning to use the blended-learning approach, whereby we combine face-to-face teaching with e-learning resources. E-learning technology will be adapted from programs widely employed by the EU members of the consortium.

There are plans to establish a Caucasian Regional Platform in Haemotology (CARPH), which will be set up in Tbilisi due to the sensitive political situation in the region.

Program Participants

The program is coordinated by Westminster University in London, with participants from 11 universities in Italy, Spain, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. Participating from Armenia are the Yerevan State University, the Yerevan State Medical University, the Center for Haemotology in the name of R. Yolyan, and the Ministry of Education and Science.

Train teaching staff from universities in the South Caucasus republics at Westminster University.

The project will be beneficial for higher education and healthcare systems in the South Caucasus republics, will rapidly improve the quality of haemotology teaching and professional training, and will promote regional cooperation.

“TEMPUS” AGAIN BECOMES YSU PARTNER

New syllbus - Heamatology

ARMENQA is a three-year project of national importance leading to the implementation of National and Sectorial Qualifications Frameworks (NQF and SQFs) in the Republic of Armenia.

Aim and Objectives

The project aims at enhancing the employability of Armenian HEIs’ graduates and facilitating recognition of the Armenian qualifications in labour market both at national and international levels.

The project has adopted holistic approach to the implementation of the NQF and SQFs with the specific objectives of:

• Operationalisation of the Armenian National Qualifications Framework (ANQF) by creating and utilizing a set of legislative, regulatory and methodological bases and tools,
• Capacity building of main stakeholders such as HEIs, students and graduates, employers and labour market representatives, state regulatory bodies and social partners on the ANQF,
• Development of the national model and methodological basis for the establishment and piloting of SQFs in Armenia,
• Provision of reference points, methodological basis and practical tools to the Armenian HEIs for the development of learning outcomes (LOs) based multilevel study programmes coherent with the ANQF, SQFs and relevant to the demands of labour market.

Expected Results

• Operationalised ANQF with all the accompanying regulatory and methodological bases and tools,
• ANQF implementation strategy and the Self-Certification Report,
• Committee responsible for managing the ANQF,
• National SQF model and 5 sample SQFs in Physics, Law, Education, Civil Engineering and Agriculture,
• Policy and guidelines on the LO-based curriculum development with alignment to SQFs and ANQF,
• LO based two-level sample programmes at Armenian HEIs for guidance,
• Enhanced capacity of HEIs, state regulatory bodies and social partners in dealing and managing the ANQF and SQFs,
• Society well aware of the ANQF and its benefits.

“Problems of the RA Higher Education National Qualifications Framework” two-day conference

The La MANCHE project is funded by Tempus IV programme and aims at promoting the modernisation of higher education in Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. The project is prompted by efforts to develop leadership skills and to introduce the culture of streamlined change management in academic settings in the context of national and international modernisation processes in higher education. Over a period of three years between October 2012 and October 2015 the project will stimulate sustainable dialogue on higher education reforms among relevant stakeholders in the respective countries.

The La MANCHE project’s overall objective is to promote the modernization of the Higher Education in Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine by building governance and management capacities at the participating Higher Education Institutions, initiating sustainable dialogue on the HE reforms among relevant interest groups, empowering students to become more actively involved in decision making at the Higher Education Institutions.

The La MANCHE project's specific objectives are:
1) to map out current leadership skills and prevalent management models at HEIs in the participating Partner Countries (PCs)
2) to map out the broader environment and socio-economic conditions in which HE modernization processes in the PCs evolve
3) to transfer context-sensitive good governance practices and models for effective leadership and change management from EU HEIs to HEIs in Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine
4) to exchange university management experience between the participant universities senior management,
5) to develop leadership skills among studnets,
6) to raise awareness on the European Higher Education Modernization Agenda and the need for HE reforms in the PCs.

VERITAS (Structural Development Of The Third Cycle Based On Salzburg Principles) is a three-year national project, under the priority of Governance Reform, EACEA N° 35/2012, 6th call and Structural Measures action.  The wider objective of the project is to ameliorate doctoral education in Armenian Higher Education System through alignment with European Qualifications Framework and Salzburg Principles.

The specific objectives target

• Strengthening human potential in research by building a critical mass of quality
• researchers through development, integration and efficient management of doctoral education in Armenian HE.
• Promoting international recognition of the III level study programmes of the ANQF through developing and adopting award criteria that are in line with
• Salzburg principles and comparable with international ones.
• Developing a system of quality evaluation and monitoring in scientific research by building and strengthening systems for continual tracking of relevant parameters.
• Stimulating and strengthening integration of science and research at universities through establishment/revision of university structures which will promote scientific research, network knowledge in education, research and innovation,
• enhance quality, effectiveness, flexibility, multidisciplinarity and interdisciplinarity of education.

The principle outcomes and outputs include:

• Development of university capacities for quality doctoral education: revision/establishment of new Research Units.
• Establishment of preconditions for quality PhD education and research.
• Formulation of PhD award criteria and quality standards in Doctoral Education.
• Development and launch of 11 new PhD programs in Armenia (11 pilot projects).
• Adoption of the PhD award criteria and quality standards.

1. The purpose of the project

To contribute to the recognition of the higher education system of Armenia, Georgia, Ukraine and Belarus (Eastern Partnership region) through the development of the internationalization and integration in the structural and cultural components of higher education management.

2. Project objectives

• to introduce the international component in university teaching, educational-methodological and scientific functions and processes based on the development and implementation of appropriate strategies;

• to develop internationalization elements for the operating of training programs, exchange of tutors and students, technical cooperation of universities;

• to identify and develop new skills among students, tutors and administrative staff to promote internationalization;

• to promote cultural development, which contributes to the evaluation of the cross-cultural and international perspectives.

3. Brief description of project

The program is aimed at the increasing of international reputation of YSU, professional competence of the professorial staff, the development of the higher education system via comparison with international trends, the strengthening of international cooperation with foreign universities, organizational and cultural support to the foreign students of YSU.

The project is being implemented through the consortium of European and CIS countries, which includes 18 universities, 2 associations, 4 ministries. Armenian side is represented byYerevanStateUniversity, Yerevan State Academy of Fine Arts,GavarStateUniversity, State Engineering University of Armenia,NationalCenterfor Quality Assurance and Ministry of Education and Science.

4. Project schedule

• Qualification rising of the staff of the departments, engaged in the international affairs of the universities and lecturers,

• Development of educational-methodological materials, directed to the international activities of the universities,

• Revising of roles and functions of the units, providing the international activities at the universities,

• Development of principles and strategies of internationalization of universities,

• Identification of educational programs with the principles of internationalization,

• Creation of information campaigns, which should be aimed at the dissemination of project results,

• To ensure the sustainability of the project,

• Project management and quality assurance.

• Universities of the European Eastern Partnership region have rules and processes that contribute to the internalization of teaching, learning and research activities.

• The academic programs of the member universities are reviewed with the aim of introducing components of internationalization, as well as student and researchers’ exchange.

• Employees of the faculties and departments of international cooperation gain new knowledge.

• Quality standards for effective management of internationalization processes are introduced.

• The member universities form a special culture and traditions relevant to the international and intercultural perspectives and initiatives.

Brief description of the program:

The project aims at uphold the higher education reforms and modernization process in place in Eastern Neighboring Area, by addressing quality assessment and support of graduates’ employability in Armenia.  The project will support Armenian Universities in identifying instruments and methodologies to improve the effectiveness of education system through the implementation, at local level, of graduates’ database system that, following the Almalaurea model in Italy, pursue two main goals:

• provide an efficient tool to Universities and Government for the monitoring of long lasting impact of HE on society and improving educational supply accordingly;
• supporting employability and collaboration between education and business sector.

The system will allow enterprises to search for graduates to employ according to specific skill needs while allowing graduates comprehensive and democratic access to labor market. The project will be supported by AlmaLaurea, in strong collaboration with Armenian Universities in all activities from DB implementation to dissemination. The aims of this system implementation are the following:

• to support the effectiveness of quality assessment practices with reliable statistical evidence on graduates features, as indicated by ENQA (European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education);
• to fulfill gaps in existing statistics;
• to facilitate the access of graduates to the job market at national as well as at international level;
• to consolidate relations between universities and companies at national as well as at international level;
• to increase in value the National University system as a whole.
