Student scientific semester sessions have become a tradition at Yerevan State University Geography and Geology Faculty. This initiative belongs to the faculty SSS.
The conference was headed On the Issues of Geography and Geology. Faculty SSS Chairman Gor Alexanyan says that a headline had been chosen, which would enable all the students of the faculty to participate in the conference, regardless of professional interests.
The main purpose of holding the conference is to shape core research approaches at the faculty. Unfortunately, the absolute majority of students who study with excellence has never participated in conferences or published articles. The faculty SSS will do everything possible to fill that gap, - says Gor Alexanyan.
The conference was attended by 15 students. Faculty SSS Chairman says that this arithmetical picture is rather an objective indicator of student scientific activity. Today, the average score of students at the faculty is higher than 4.5. We have sent invitations all students individually to participate in the conference. However, very few responded. More than half of the students, who made reports during the conference, are members of the faculty SSS, - explains the SSS Chairman.
After the official opening ceremony, the work continued in three sections at the same time: Geology, Physical Geography and Social and Economic Geography. This year the conference was competitive. In each section the reports were estimated and observed by the commission, composed of the faculty professorial staff. At the end of the conference the commission will choose three best reports.
Results of the conference will be summarized tomorrow at YSU Academic Council Hall. Best students from each of the sections will be given gifts and diplomas, and all other participants will receive certificates. Gor Alexanyan said that best reports will be published in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
The assessment format of the work of the sections, chosen by the lecturers, will be presented in the coming issue of the official newspaper Yerevan University.
