The delegation headed by Iraqi Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Abd al-Razak Abd al-Jaleel Al-Issa was composed of heads of various departments of the ministry, as well as a number of universities and colleges.
YSU Vice-rectors Alexander Grigoryan, Gegham Gevorgyan, academics Ashot Saghyan, Samvel Shukuryan, Head of International Cooperation Office Alexander Markarov, as well as heads of chairs Hayk Kocharyan and Vahram Petrosyan were present at the meeting.
YSU Rector Aram Simonyan welcomed the guests, briefly presented the history of YSU, the educational process, international relations and prospects of its development.
“YSU, the largest university and scientific center in Armenia, conducts a very active international policy. We have more than 270 partners, which include a number of leading foreign universities,” - said Aram Simonyan and added that there are almost no ties with Iraqi universities.
“We have had meetings in different international platforms with the representatives from various Iraqi schools, there have been arrangements that, unfortunately, have not been implemented. So we are glad to receive you here, we are ready to start cooperation with the Iraqi universities,” - said the rector.
The Iraqi Minister thanked for warm reception and mentioned that the main purpose of the visit is to learn about the Armenian educational system and to get partners through definite steps.
“The main purpose of our visit is to outline the possibilities of cooperation and development of cooperation between universities of the two countries,” - said Abd al-Razak Abd al-Jaleel Al-Issa and added that they have visited Armenia at the invitation of the Armenian ambassador to Iraq.
During the meeting the sides discussed a number of issues related to exchange of students, as well as training of the representatives of the tutorial staff.
