The guest of YSU on the 4th of April was the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov, who had arrived in Armenia with an official visit.
The system of higher education can and must serve as an effective pattern in the sphere of collaboration. Today is the very time to reestablish the united educational territory. Our IHE has developed active collaboration with the leading Russian IHE and scientific-research centers, - said in his opening speech YSU Rector Aram Simonyan.
Focusing on the activities, undertaken during these 15 years, Sergey Lavrov mentioned that our countries have not any discords in the sphere of policy, and the stable political dialogue develops actively. He stressed on the fact that during two last years Armenian and Russian presidents had eight meetings.
The tight relationship and the collaboration between our countries in cultural and humanitarian spheres is not limited just by these 15 years. This has served as a basis for the development of strong partnership, which is the most important factor for the stability in the region, - said the diplomat.
All these years Russia has been the general military and trade partner of Armenia, also the most important investor for Armenian economy. The guest added that Russian-Armenian military group has been established in the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the Russian military unit in Armenia has been strengthened financially and technically.
Significant activities have been undertaken in the direction of alleviating of the transport blockade of Armenia, Armenia has become a member of the international transport corridor North-South, - said Sergey Lavrov.
Speaking about the pre-election situation in Armenia, Mr.Lavrov expressed his hope that the political forces which speculate on Russian-Armenian relations will show greater response.
In the end of the meeting YSU tutors and students were provided with the opportunity to ask the guest the questions they were interested in. Mr. Lavrov answered to their questions, afterwards presented YSU Library with a collection of books. Alma Mater, in its turn, awarded Sergey Lavrov with YSU Golden medal.

Since the morning of December 12th, a group of Azerbaijani civilians disguised as environmentalists have imposed a blockade on the Goris-Stepanakert highway (the Lachin Corridor) which is currently the only route linking Nagorno-Karabakh to the outside world. On top of that, during bitterly cold winter Azerbaijan had shut off natural gas supplies leaving the civilians in the territory without heating for 75 hours.

A meeting with Armenian composer, People's Artist of the Republic of Armenia Tigran Mansuryan took place at YSU Charles Aznavour Culture Center, during which university rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan presented the maestro with YSU gold medal.
