This year’s debate championship was inter-university one. The championship started in September. 45 teams applied for the participation, of which 16 succeeded in the qualifying round.
“Almost all universities were represented. This is a good opportunity not only for YSU students, but also for all university students to discuss important issues of the country and society YSU should be the epicenter where social, political and scientific professional discussions will take place,” - said YSU Student Council Chairman Armen Khachikyan.
At the final stage competitions were held by YSU Faculty of International Relations “Diploma” and YSU Faculty of Law “Alibi” teams. The theme of the debate was “The Concept of the Nation-Army in Armenia”. The "Diploma" team represented “against”, and “Alibi” – “for” position.
The jury consisted of lecturer of the Faculty of Geography and Geology Gor Alexanyan, YSU Faculty of International Relations lecturer Tsolak Akopyan, YSU Student Council Chairman Armen Khachikyan, YSU Faculty of International Relations Master students Hovsep Babayan and Areni Harutyunyan.
There was a change in the jury assessment procedure. Jury members first voiced their opinions and the sum total was announced at the end of the championship.
The “Diploma” team won and was awarded with a cup. Tatev Soghoyan, member of “Alibi” team, was also recognized as the best speaker, who was also awarded with a cup. The participants of the final game also received certificates, books and gifts.
