For the fifth consecutive year, the program aims to promote and support the national self-preservation and strengthening of Armenian communities in the Diaspora, the level of Armenian language knowledge among young people, the qualifications of teachers of Armenian schools, educational officials, national song and dance groups’ leaders, Diaspora Armenian media, youth organizations’ activities, as well as the self-organization of communities.
RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan addressed the participants of the program and mentioned that they will enrich their knowledge in the best Armenian university for a month: “Here, in this wonderful university, which is my Alma Mater, too, the best Armenian specialists teach. I am hopeful that your knowledge will help you in your life in order to fulfill your ultimate duty to remain Armenian and work for the homeland.”
YSU Rector Aram Simonyan welcomed the program participants on behalf of the whole staff of the university: “I remember when we discussed with the minister and the president of the republic this program and opened this summer school. Of course, there were many difficulties and we could see them, but we were also hopeful that the school will function and will serve its purpose.
We knew because we were sure that our Diaspora colleagues would help us. Implementation of this school is of special importance for YSU.”
It should be noted that the trainings will be held in five directions: Accelerated Learning of Armenian Language (July 2-29), Training of Armenian Language Teachers and Educational Workers (July 2-29), Training of Young Journalists (2-15 July) Master classes for national song directors and dance instructors (2-15 July), Trainings for young leaders and community organizers (2-15 July). Besides the theoretical and practical lessons, cultural events will be organized, visits to historical sights of Armenia, meetings with state, public, cultural figures and spiritual leaders.
It should be noted that the solemn opening ceremony was followed by a concert program organized by YSU Cultural Centre.
