TOMORROW YSU BECOMES 100: LIST OF EVENTS
Tomorrow is the day of foundation of Yerevan State University: on May 16, 2019 the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Armenia made a decision on founding a university in Yerevan.

On January 31, 1920 the ceremony of opening was held in the building of the trade school in Alexandrapol (present Gyumri). The leaders of the republic and numerous guests from abroad took part in the ceremony.

The classes were started with the lecture delivered by eminent Armenologist Stepan Malkhasyan on February 1, 1920.

Tomorrow, on May 16, the day of YSU foundation a number of events will be given in Gyumri and Yerevan.

The list of jubilee events to be held in Gyumri on YSU 100th anniversary:

11:00 – Students’ flash-mob (Vardanants square).
13:00 – Session of YSU jubilee commission (Centre of Information Technologies of Gyumri, 1st Guy street)
14:30 –Opening of the memorial board (Centre of Information Technologies of Gyumri, 1st Guy street)
15:00 – Jubilee concert (Centre of Information Technologies of Gyumri, 1st Guy street)

On the same day, on May 16, at 20:00 the festive event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Yerevan will be held in yard of the central building of YSU in Yerevan. Popular singer Iveta Mukuchyan will perform her concert during the event.

The next day, on May 17, at 19:00 the annual awards “Best Student of YSU” will be held in the yard of the central building of YSU. The awards will be followed by the concert of Sona Rubenyan and Garik Papoyan dedicated to the 100th anniversary of YSU foundation, the 25th anniversary of Student Council and Student Day.

STATEMENT OF YEREVAN STATE UNIVERSITY  ADDRESSED TO INTERNATIONAL PARTNERS REGARDING THE SITUATION CREATED AS A RESULT OF THE BLOCKADE IMPOSED ON THE LACHIN CORRIDOR
Since the morning of December 12th, a group of Azerbaijani civilians disguised as environmentalists have imposed a blockade on the Goris-Stepanakert highway (the Lachin Corridor) which is currently the only route linking Nagorno-Karabakh to the outside world. On top of that, during bitterly cold winter Azerbaijan had shut off natural gas supplies leaving the civilians in the territory without heating for 75 hours.

A meeting with Armenian composer, People's Artist of the Republic of Armenia Tigran Mansuryan took place at YSU Charles Aznavour Culture Center, during which university rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan presented the maestro with YSU gold medal.
