FACULTY OF BIOLOGY EXPANDS INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS
On October 18-19, delegation of the Hanze University of Applied Sciences (Netherlands) visited YSU.

Within the framework of the two-day visit, members of the delegation first were received by Armen Trchounian, Head of the Chair of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Biotechnology of the Faculty of Biology, after which foreign partners met with the Dean of the Faculty Emil Gevorgyan.


Emil Gevorgyan briefly presented YSU history, educational system, faculty structure and development trends.


Then the guests visited “Innovative Microbial Biotechnologies and Bioenergy Innovation Center" of the Faculty of Biology, toured the lab, got acquainted with the work of the center.


Director of the Center Karen Trchounian and the staff of the Center presented research projects and results registered so far.


"I am impressed by Yerevan State University, in particular the Chair of Microbiology and Biotechnology opportunities and work done. I think we have quite serious prerequisites for developing active and effective cooperation, joint research projects, exchange programs, and why not, development and implementation of double-diploma education programs," - said Victor Graf-Peters, Principal of the School of the Natural Sciences and Technologies of this university.


Victor Graf-Peters also emphasized that there is an interest in the activities of the above mentioned center of the Faculty of Biology, so the cooperation will also include that field.




YSU Vice-rector on Scientific Policy and International Cooperation Gegham Gevorgyan also received the delegation members.


During the meeting the Vice-Rector spoke about the peculiarities of the scientific policy of the university and Alexander Markarov, Head of International Cooperation Office, touched upon international policy, programs implemented and cooperation with foreign universities. After the discussions a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the universities.


"The university has extensive experience in combining science and industry, so we hope that the jointly implemented programs will have a positive impact on the development of relevant branches and innovation," - Armen Trchounian said.


Within the framework of the two-day visit guests from Netherlands also met with students, discussed the spheres and perspectives of cooperation with the Chair of Microbiology and Biotechnology, as well as visited YSU History Museum, Yerevan historical and cultural places and a number of scientific-research institutions.

AN EVENT DEDICATED TO THE ARMENIAN LANGUAGE
Today, YSU Faculty of Armenian Philology hosted a conference entitled "Armenian Language: From Mashtots to Present Days", during which, at the initiative of Hamazkayin Armenian Educational and Cultural Union, best students received a scholarship named after Hakob Karapents.

YSU Vice-rector on Scientific Policy AND International Cooperation Gegham Gevorgyan and lecturer at the Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics Karen Keryan were awarded the RA Presidential Award for a series of scientific articles entitled “The issues of convergence and solitude of certain orthogonal issues”.
