At the beginning of the session YSU Rector told the members of the Academic Council about the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Tbilisi State University and noted that the celebrations were quite well organized. This experience can be used for the organizing of the anniversary events in the frames of the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of YSU.
The Academic Council, confirming the timetable of the second semester of the 2017-2018 academic year, discussed the issue of renaming YSU Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology.
Dean of the Faculty Samvel Abrahamyan mentioned that the Academic Council of the faculty discussed the issue and decided to rename the faculty: “Taking into consideration the current market requirements and program changes, we would like to rename the faculty into the Faculty of European Languages and Communication where we will focus on practical training. Two foreign languages will be taught equally.”
The issues on preparing and evaluating the bachelor’s program and the additions to the Master’s thesis preparation and evaluation were presented to the approval of the Academic Council.
Head of YSU Educational and Methodological Department Hrant Zhamharyan stated that the additions are conditioned by the new procedure of final attestation adopted by the RA Ministry of Education and Science: “According to the additions, members of the final attestation commission will have the right to evaluate who has been present at the defense of the student’s final work from the beginning till the end.”
“The grade of the assessment should be published immediately after the summarization, and the outcome of the results will be derived from that. At first, the chairman of the commission asks the appeals, after which the student immediately submits the application to the commission chairperson. The appeal is accepted if there are violations of the established procedural provisions. In other words, there will not be discussions on the content,” - said Hrant Zhamharyan.
The issue of the receiving nominal scholarship for the 2nd half of the 2017-2018 academic year was discussed and approved. It was mentioned that only 9 out of 55 scholarships had been changed, with corresponding documents already available.
Head of the Legal Department Armen Tadevosyan presented the charters of the Pedagogy and Education Development Center and the Innovation Center for Bioorganic Biotechnologies and Bioenergy which were also submitted to the approval of the Academic Council.
The issue of submitting the proposal to YSU Board of Trustees to dissolve “YSU Human Resources Division” and “YSU Legal Department” structural subdivisions and create a structural subdivision of “YSU Staff Management and Legal Support Department” was also approved. YSU Rector mentioned that YSU Human Resources Division does not correspond to today’s requirements: “Today, we need not only staff, but also there is a need to train staff, follow their mobility, as well as create appropriate procedures for personnel selection.”
At the end of the session, Gohar Iskandaryan, Associate Professor of the Chair of Iranian Studies at YSU Faculty of Oriental Studies and Vardan Voskanyan, Head of the same chair, made a joint scientific report titled “Recent Developments in Iran and Their Impact on Armenia”.
