THE COMPETITION OF THE DEBATE CLUB CAME TO ITS FINISH LINE
Today, the final of the 2017 competition of YSU Student Debate Club was held.

Finalists were the teams “Alibi” and “We”. The topic was “Compromise within the framework of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict for the sake of peace.” By the decision of the jury the team “Alibi”, representing YSU Faculty of Law, won in this season.

The jury was composed of the Candidate of Philosophy Atom Vardumyan, Deputy Director of the “Caucasus” Institute, military expert Sergey Minasyan, Candidate of History Mikayel Malkhasyan, Chairman of YSU Student Council Armen Khachikyan, Coordinator of the Debate Club Never Kirakosyan.

Besides the main game, special prizes had been prepared for the relegated teams, which, however, had shown good results. The special prize went to the team “Spotlight” from YSU Faculty of Journalism.

Chief of Staff of the Debate Club Varditer Badoyan noted that the competition, which kicked off on February 13, was held in two stages - qualifying and competition. 46 teams had applied for the participation in the competition (each team was composed of 6 students). Taking into account the ranking table only 32 got the chance to take part in the competition.

The event held this year differed from previous ones, as before the start of the competition the future participants had attended lectures on the rhetoric art, argumentation and had obtained special skills to successfully influence the jury’s opinion.

“Our motto is platform, opportunities, self-education,” - said Nver Kirakosyan, adding that the aim was to create a discussion environment for students to develop the culture of debate.

According to YSU Student Council Chairman Armen Khachikyan other initiatives of intellectual nature are expected, too.
