The event, organized at the initiative of YSU Military-patriotic Education Club “Vardanank” and YSU Faculty of History, was dedicated to the 95th anniversaries of Yerevan State University and the Faculty of History, as well as the 20th anniversary of the ceasefire agreement.
Opening speech was made by the Dean of the Faculty of History Edik Minasyan, who particularly stressed the importance of such events: “In fact, this event involved a lot of students, and this is very important in terms of dissemination of information, and in terms of maintaining the memory of the soldiers-liberators from YSU.”
Hero of Artsakh, Major General Arkady Ter-Tadevosyan, writer Grigor Janikyan, researcher at the Institute for Armenian Studies of YSU Katie Gundakchyan, representatives of the professorial staff of the Faculty of History, students, relatives and friends of the freedom fighters were present at this event.
Chairman of the club “Vardanank” Satenik Abrahamyan noted that it is very important that each student should spread the patriotic spirit at his faculty.
During the event, students made reports about the soldiers-liberators, who studied at the Faculty of History: Vardan Dallakyan, Zakar Avanesyan, Tatul Krpeyan, Roman Mkrtchyan, Vardan Bakhshyan and Arthur Mkrtchyan. They also performed “Song of fighter” and dance “Karabakh Deer.”
The event was also attended by freedom fighter Igor Sargsyan, who said in his speech: “I came here to tell you the covenants of our soldiers, their pain, many of these guys did not have time to fall in love, get married. I have come to remind you that they fought for their children, for the continuation of their families and people. I came here to say that the struggle is everywhere: in nature, in space, among humanity. There are wars now throughout the world. But we have our own struggle, and if you want to live, to speak in your language, to live at home, then you should be ready to fight. The fight is not only with weapons, but with the help of knowledge.”
After the event Arkady Ter-Tadevosyan said: “You, historians, you know that everything has a beginning, continuation and end. Today you learnt about your past. Club “Vardanank” has realized many years ago that the main thing is the intangible and not tangible in life. It should be understood that the Azerbaijani soldier stands in front of our soldier, who has learnt from his ancestors to run away, and as for our case - the exact opposite.”
