On February 19 of 2015 YSU Academic Council had awarded Jose Sarukhan, former Rector of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, the Coordinator of the National Commission for Biodiversity of Mexico title of Honorary Doctor of YSU for his great contribution to the science and education, social activities, the process of recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide, as well as development of cooperation between National Autonomous University of Mexico and Yerevan State University.
Welcoming the participants of the meeting, YSU Rector Aram Simonyan underlined that this is a long-awaited meeting during which the diploma handing ceremony will take place.
Mr. Simonyan briefly presented the biography of the Armenian professor, adding that Jose Sarukhan has arrived in Armenia within the framework of Armenia-Diaspora forum.
“Taking into consideration the great achievements in the field of science and significant pro-Armenian activities by Jose Sarukhan, YSU Academic Council had made the decision to award Mr. Sarukhan the title of YSU Honorary Doctor on February 19, 2015,” - said Mr. Simonyan and handed Jose Sarukhan the certificate.
Besides the diploma, Jose Sarukhan was also awarded YSU Gold Medal for his pro-Armenian activities.
Jose Sarukhan expressed gratitude for the warm reception and appreciation, noting that it is a great honor for him to be Honorary Doctor of YSU: “The best ways of friendship and cooperation among nations are culture, economic cooperation, science and education, so the aim of the National Autonomous University of Mexico is to expand its cooperation with YSU.”
