This session, however, differs in many aspects from the sessions, held a few years ago. The reason is the credit system, introduced at our university, which allows students to prepare for exams rather than in one or a few days, but the whole semester.
Head of YSU Educational-methodological Department Hrant Zhamharyan says that in many cases the students gain their positive points in the result of midterm examinations and attendance rate and do not participate in the final oral examination, being satisfied with already earned marks. Mr. Zhamharyan also noted that the introduction of the credit system has already had a positive impact on the attendance of the students in recent years, which also positively affects during the preparation for exams.
Annually, during the winter session, the freshmen, perhaps, are rather excited part of the studentship who deal with the phenomenon of final exam for the first time. According to Mr. Zhamharyan the so-called consultants provide them with all the necessary information in advance, who are mostly experienced lecturers of the faculties and perform the functions of the school master. They focus on the peculiarities of the university education, give advices on how to earn credits during the semester and prepare for the final exams.
This year, the credit system is applied for bachelor (1st and 3rd years) and master students. By the way, special attention is paid to the disrespect towards the examination session. To provide students with fair and equal conditions the deans offices accept only references, related to ambulatory treatment, in case student has been absent during the examination.
