By the decision of YSU Academic Council, Louise Mushikiwabo was awarded the title of "Honorary Doctor of Yerevan State University".
The delegation led by the Secretary- General of the International Organization of La Francophonie Louise Mushikiwabo arrived in Armenia today on an official visit, within the framework of which the meeting was organized at YSU.
Welcoming the Secretary- General, YSU Acting Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan happily mentioned, that it was a great honor to host her at the university.
During the meeting, Hovannisyan and Mushikiwabo spoke about the situation in Armenia due to the consequences of the coronavirus and the 44-day of Artsakh war.
They also discussed the ways of cooperation between the International Organization of La Francophonie and Armenia, particularly YSU.
Hovhannes Hovhannisyan informed, that Louise Mushikiwabo was born in Rwanda and said that Armenia and Rwanda have many similar pages in history, one of which, unfortunately, is the genocide.
"Armenians and the people of Rwanda have been subjected to genocide. In this sense, our history, our memories, our feelings are quite similar. I know that Mrs Mushikiwabo suffered during that period, as we did during the Genocide and the First and Second Artsakh Wars. In other words, there is an emotional mutual understanding between us", he said.
Expressing gratitude for being awarded the honorary title of YSU Doctor, Louise Mushikiwabo said that it was not just a gift for her, but a special connection with Yerevan State University.
