NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS
On July 14, IBM Center for Innovative Solutions and Technologies (ISTC) hosted a discussion on the start-ups in the Armenian higher education institutions and trends in start-up culture.

At the beginning of the event, hosted by the IBM Center for Innovative Solutions and Technologies (ISTC) and the Enterprise Incubator Foundation (EIF), Ruzanna Safaryan, Head of IBM Center for Education Programs, presented Center’s upcoming educational programs, initiatives and developments. He also presented a new joint master’s program of YSU and their center, which will start in September 2017.

 

“Master’s program in the field of “Data Science in Business” will operate at YSU Faculty of Economics and Management, will last for 1 year and 6 months and will be open to all students of Armenia regardless of the university,” - said Ruzanna Safaryan.

 

Then IGC Business Development Manager Areg Gevorgyan spoke about ISTC startup culture. He presented the Center’s launcher model and the characteristics of student programs.

 

During the event, the graduation event of the “ISTC Academy” program was also held, during which students received their graduation certificates.

 

The program is being held for the fourth time. Out of 300 applications received 30 students from different Armenian universities were selected. For 4 months, students took part in 2 main courses on technology and business. Then, teams were formed from the participants who worked on their own business projects.

 

After the presentation of the programs, Chus Lausan (Serial entrepreneur, BA consultant and strategic consultant) presented international experience in terms of formation of culture and ecosystem development. Special reference was made to the establishment of “Business Angel” network in Armenia and its possibilities.

 

At the end of the event YSU Entrepreneurship Development Center and the IBM Innovation Solutions and Technologies Center announced the launch of “YSU Start-Up Challenge Summer-2017” competition aimed at promoting the innovation and entrepreneurship culture and helping student teams making their ideas and projects realistic.

 

The best two teams will be given an opportunity to be involved in the ISTC acceleration program, pass internships and receive other prizes.
