NEW STANDARDS OF QUALITY AND CRITERIA OF DEGREES
NEW STANDARDS OF QUALITY AND CRITERIA OF DEGREES
These days YSU hosts the workshop of “Veritas” project of “Tempus” program. The participants are from different universities and institutions of Armenia.

The workshop “Award Criteria and Quality standards in PhD education” has brought together 11 universities, as well as the RA Ministry of Education and Science, National Center for Professional Education Quality Assurance and NGO “Education Management”. The project coordinator is Yerevan State Medical University. Partners are 3 European universities.

“This workshop aims to develop quality standards and criteria of degrees for the 3rd level of higher education - the post graduate studies. Up now there have been discussions with our European partners, and discussions have been held at each of these universities. The results of the workshop will be summarized and submitted to the ANQA which will introduce standards and criteria,” - says “Veritas” project coordinator Marina Balasanyan.

We should note there have been no quality standards in Armenia up now, and the criteria of degrees are different in different HEI based on their orientation. There is no any such document now and this workshop is to solve this problem.

The program was launched half and a year ago. Participants were introduced to the Salzburg principles, aimed at the development of the research education and its application in the European universities. Self-analysis was conducted at the Armenian universities to see the current situation.

“Everything that is presented on the postgraduate education in this program is not new, there is just a need to make new interpretations and present approaches of various universities, and, most importantly, to make an attempt to get quality control mechanisms for postgraduate studies,” – said YSU Vice-rector on Scientific Policy and International Cooperation Gegham Gevorgyan.

The workshop will continue on May 13.
