PROFESSOR OF ARMENIAN ORIGIN DELIVERED A LECTURE AT YSU
On June 12-13, Professor from the University of Rochester (USA) Sevak Mkrtchyan delivered lectures for the students of the Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics.

Within the frames of the lecture “Introduction to the theory of random matrices” Professor Mkrtchyan presented random matrices relationship with the various branches of mathematics, famous and valuable results obtained in this field and its famous scientists.

 

“Random matrix theory is one of the modern and rapidly developing branches of probability theory with applications in statistics, mathematics, physics and other fields,” -said Sevak Mkrtchyan.

 

This was the first visit of Professor to YSU and he noted that was impressed by the students’ approaches and level of knowledge: “This visit may be a good opportunity for further cooperation via organizing such workshops, lectures.”

 

Our guest said he has already made a report during the annual conference of the Armenian Mathematical Society, conducted seminars during the session of this organization, as well as at the Institute of Mathematics of the National Academy of Sciences of the RA and the Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics.

 

Sevak Mkrtchyan studied Physics at the Special School named after Artashes Shahinyan, participated in the International Mathematics Olympiad and won one silver and two bronze medals, then continued his education at the US University of California, Berkeley. Now he works at the University of Rochester in the USA.
