Students regularly visit military units, familiarize with the military and daily life of the soldiers. New members have recently joined the club and the first program in which they participated was shooting. As the commander of the club Mher Otaryan said this was not a random choice, and this new page in the club’s activities will start with the visit to a military unit.
“Students need to understand (at least to some extent) soldier’s daily routine, types of armory, military housing and just to be able to express their gratitude to our soldiers,” - said Mher Otaryan.
Among the club members were young people who recently returned from military service and now continue their education at YSU. Many of them recalled their days of service and shared memories.
The majority of students who visited the unit were girls. But all followed the accompanying officers with the same interest and sense of responsibility. The latters spoke about the history of the unit, etc.
After students learnt the safety rules they were invited to the shooting range. They tried to show already acquired knowledge and skills. Then the skills of the new members of the club were assessed by their senior colleagues.
Major of the military unit Kocharyan has participated in such events for many times. He notes that students gradually become more interested in the military affairs and the daily life of the soldiers. For example, they wish to know about the leisure time of the soldiers, what kind of training they attend, etc.
“I feel different every time. Discipline has arisen among students. There were even girls who wanted to become snipers. Students want to support our soldiers,” - said Major Kocharyan.
Students also performed folk and patriotic songs and dances.
