DEBATE SKILLS FOR STUDENTS
DEBATE SKILLS FOR STUDENTS
Today, Student Scientific Society of YSU Faculty of International Relations held a conference “United Nations Model”. The working language was English.

Organizers noted that the goal of the conference, held regularly, is to develop students’ rhetoric, debating and negotiating skills, as well as to introduce this institution.

The participants were from Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University, American University of Armenia, Yerevan State University of Languages and Social Sciences, Gavar State University, as well as College of the French University in Armenia.

YSU Academic Secretary Menua Soghomonyan, who welcomed and praised this initiative of the SSS on behalf of YSU administration, was also present at this event.

“Indeed, this initiative is an example of non-formal education and is very welcome. Students not only get a chance to apply the theoretical knowledge on practice, to study this international structure and positions of various countries on many problems, but also develop language skills,” - said Menua Soghomonyan.

Conference co-organizer, the SSS Chairman of the mentioned above faculty Edik Harutyunyan noted that students participate in such events with great interest and enthusiasm.

“Applications for participation were submitted this year by more than 120 students and we selected 33, who today present positions of various states on a definite issue,” - said Edik Harutyunyan and added that mainly they have selected those students, who have not got much experience in such events, as well as first-year students.

This was a simulation game, where students had received in advance one scenario, under which demonstrations and internal strife had started in Moldova, directed to the historic reunification of Moldova and Romania.
