On April 22, in Yekaterinburg, in the framework of the 5th Youth Economic Forum the representatives of the higher education institutions of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan signed an agreement on foundation of the University League of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. The League is aimed at the comprehensive development in the Eurasian region in the areas of security, economy, science, engineering, humanities, information technology, legal and other aspects.
The founding meeting was preceded by a series of discussions, including TV bridges, during which representatives of the partner universities discussed the issues and content of the emerging structure. During the TV Bridge, held on February 13, 2014, YSU Rector Aram Simonyan, welcoming the initiative, highlighted the practical importance of the League, as well as its expertise potential and the active participation of students and young people in its works.
The founding meeting was attended by the Secretary General of the CSTO Nikolay Bordyuzha, who is one of the initiators of the formation of the University League and is the Secretary General of the Supreme Council of the League. Mr. Bordyuzha noted in his speech that the University League will be an important experimental platform, the research results of which will be presented to the CSTO member states.
YSU was represented at the founding meeting by YSU Vice-rector on Students, Alumni and Public Relations Ruben Markosyan. According to Mr. Markosyan the coming year will be the period of the solution of the league’s organizational problems and its final establishment. It is envisaged to form institutions in the framework of the League, which will be occupied in the area of various security issues (information, financial, natural products, environmental, etc.), which will be coordinated by the League member universities.
