According to the statistical facts presented by the republican selection committee Rouben Topchyan, this year the general number of entrants increased from 12093 to 12686 in comparing with last years. In general, 34387 exams were appointed, from which the entrants were present 31277. This year 8342 got 18-20 points, 4056 unsatisfactory, and 20 points got 1433 entrants.
There are not very significant changes in choosing the professions in physics-mathematical sciences against this year this number increased with 10 people. In comparison with 2005, the number of entrants to pass English exams increased with 200 people. According to the facts received from the Ministry, the prestige of YSU International Relations increased, this year the entrants here increased from 122 to 206.

Since the morning of December 12th, a group of Azerbaijani civilians disguised as environmentalists have imposed a blockade on the Goris-Stepanakert highway (the Lachin Corridor) which is currently the only route linking Nagorno-Karabakh to the outside world. On top of that, during bitterly cold winter Azerbaijan had shut off natural gas supplies leaving the civilians in the territory without heating for 75 hours.

YSU rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, along with Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of RA Karen Trchunyan, hosted the delegation headed by Mikhail Myasnikovich, Chairman of the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission.
