UN INVITES STUDENTS
One of the UN Population Fund volunteer projects was presented to YSU studentship today.

The Reproductive Health Initiative for Youth in the South Caucasus (RHIYC), launched in 2006, is a three-year project co-funded by the European Commission (EC) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and supported by the European Fund for Population and Development (EFPD). It seeks to advance the sexual and reproductive health (S&RH) and rights status of youth ages 15-24 living in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia, as well as deals with the issues of awareness among youth and demography.

Youth Volunteer Movement net operates under the UN Population Fund (www.4uth.am), which has its offices in 36 countries worldwide and about 5000 activists. It has got the background of 6 years in Armenia.

The reproduction rate in Armenia is 1, 7 and in Azerbaijan this rate is more than 2. This is already national security issue. We must also take into consideration that the acquired infertility cases in Armenia is 30%. In many cases we deal here with the factor of wrong information spreading.

In Armenia only 9% of boys speak in their families about the sexual health and in case of girls this rate is higher. Our goal is to establish an institution, which will provide youth will exact information, because, as various researches show, the issues of sexual health arise in young age, - said the Coordinator in Armenia of the Reproductive Health Initiative for Youth in the South Caucasus Arsen Mkrtchyan.

Those volunteers, who are going to be involved in this project, will take trainings (several stages expected) in Armenia and foreign countries. Afterwards special courses will start.

YSU Alumni and Career Center, which helps our studentship in the process of career building, does its best to make our students and alumni more competitive in the labor market. We must not think only of professional skills. We must also think about human qualities of our alumni. And the volunteer work at the experienced international organizations is a good mean to make aware the youth of these qualities, - said YSU Alumni and Career Center Director Armen Yesayants.
