The scientific-research laboratory «Biophysics of Subcellular Structures» was founded in 2005 at Department of Biophysics of Fuculty of Biology of YSU:

The main directions of investigations
The investigations of biophysics of submolecular structures have been carrying out by following directions.

  • Investigations of complexes of different biologically active compounds interacting with DNA and chromatin,
  • Investigations of molecular mechanisms of steroid and peptide hormone effects,
  • Investigations of structural and functional peculiarities of bacteria membranes,
  • Investigations of effect of free radical processes on both structure and functions of biological membranes,
  • Investigations of photophysical and photochemical mechanisms of photosynthesis,
  • Investigations of secondary metabolite synthesis stimulation in cellular, caluse cultures of different medicinal herbs:


Actuality


Within the frames of present program it is planned to investigate biological systems that may be greatly applied in clinical medicine. Particularly, the studies on interaction of different low molecular compounds with DNA and chromatin are very important from pharmacological point of view, since the mentioned compounds may play an key role in different genetic pathological states and be an efficient drug preparation. From this point of view the studies on secondary metabolite synthesis stimulating in different medicinal herbs are also significant. The investigations of steroid and peptide hormone influence molecular mechanisms have a great actuality as well, since hormones are multifunctional components in organism and play a huge role in organism homeostasis preservation. Biological membranes are powerful gates that permit the import and the export of different biologically important compound into the cell. The studies of their structural and functional peculiarities will allow to reveal the certain mechanisms controlling the import and the export of different compounds into the cell that has a key significance for the number of pathological states. Free radical processes are significant for organism vital ability up to cell apoptosis processes. Hence the studies that allow to reveal the peculiarities of these processes are important. The investigation of photosynthesis processes in cells is also constitutive from biophysical point of view.


Goals and topics

It is planned to carry out the following investigations in program frame.

  • To continue the investigations of different low molecular compounds – ligands with DNA in conditions of both presence and absence of effect of external medium different factors for revealing of their binding peculiarities with DNA as well as structural-functional changes of DNA,
  • To continue the investigations of molecular mechanisms of different hormone effect in organism for revealing physical-chemical peculiarities of their effect on organe-systems and cells,
  • To continue the investigations of structural and functional peculiarities of bacteria membranes under the influence of external medium different factors (electromagnetic waves, heavy metals etc.),
  • To continue the investigations of effect of free radical processes on both structure and functions of natural and artificial membranes,
  • To reveal the mechanisms of photophysical and photochemical processes in plants,
  • To continue the investigations of secondary metabolite synthesis stimulating processes in cellular and caluse cultures of different medicinal herbs.
