Since the first day of its foundation till now Student Council has had 5 sessions. The main governing body of SC is the congress, and each faculty elects congress delegates depending on the number of its students.

It has its subdivisions in each YSU faculty. The main aim of SC is not only the organization of student activities, leisure, in-university life, but also student rights' protection, which is implemented with the help of delegate-representatives in governing bodies of university.

The SC president is a member of YSU Academic Council. During all the years of its operation it has protected rights and interests of students, trying to involve as many students as possible and had done everything to win and preserve the trust towards its activities.

In 2001-2002 with the efforts of SC and All Armenian Youth Foundation "Student's Voice" radio station began to function, which played its great informational role in student life.

In December 16, 2004 Mihran Hakobyan a member of the SC of International Relations Faculty was elected to be the president of the SC. SC Presidency consists of 28 members. At the sessions faculty presidents are also welcome to be present, but only with advisory vote right. All the decisions are carried unanimously through voting.

SC has 7 committees: of sports and culture, PR and media, foreign relations, law, academic, financial-economical, social. New mechanisms of dealing with faculties and students have been worked out and the functioning of the committee is getting more active. Numerous academic and cultural events organized by the students follow each other.

Now besides taking part in intrauniversity events and projects YSU SC members also actively participate in all youth, interuniversity events.

The main objectives of SC are: always to stay aware and solve student problems, to protect their rights, to assist financially those students who are in need, to explore and encourage talented and gifted students, to organize summer and winter time leisure, to increase interest on student life among students.

From December 15th, 2006 to June 7th, 2008 YSU Student Council was the member of Presidium of SC of the Faculty of Informatics and Applied Mathematics Hamlet Manukyan.

On 7th of June, 2008 head of the Student Council of YSU Faculty of International Relations, member of YSU SC Presidium Tsolak Akopyan was elected YSU SC President.
