THE DAMOCLES' SWARD OF OUR DAYS
THE DAMOCLES' SWARD OF OUR DAYS
Beginning with 1988 there are 433 contagious persons registered in Armenia.

YSU Student Department organized a meeting with students on the 20th of February. Priest Ghevond Mayilyan and Edward Hovhannisyan, Director of the Center of AIDS/HIV Prevention were present at the meeting. The top goal of the initiative was to focus on the danger of AIDS/HIV once again and to raise the question of the necessity of its urgent prevention. The students were provided with the opportunity to ask guests the questions they were interested in.

Nobody today is insured for 100% from the danger of being infected with AIDS. But the specialist of the Center of AIDS/HIV Prevention, Doctor Edward Hovhannisyan states that there are about 2800 bacilli-carriers in Armenia. This statistics is a real disaster for such a small country as Armenia is.

This virus was first registered in 1980s in the USA in the circle of homosexuals. At first the society found the existence of this virus to be positive, thinking that this disease could serve as a way to relieve the society of the homosexuals. In a short period of time it became obvious that AIDS/HIV does not make any difference between the lives of homosexuals and the lives of the people who have traditional sexual orientation.

The priest calls us to be tolerant and lenient towards the infected people and to encourage them. With such actions we can help those to be useful for their families in the twilight of their lives, to be attentive and cautious towards the people they love and not to become the source of infection spreading.
