Despite the fact that May 9 was Sunday, it was too noisy in the courtyard of Yerevan State University in the early morning. According to the established tradition, universitarians, before a visit to the Monument, laid flowers at the monuments located on the territory of Yerevan State University.
For us this is a family celebration, because my grandfather is Great Patriotic War veteran. And despite the weather, we participate in the celebration,-says YSU Faculty of Biology Deputy Dean Henrik Semerjyan, who always visits Victory Park on May 9with his grandson.
And his grandson, Harutyun, says that he loves this holiday, as it is a good reason to walk and talk with his grandfather. He learns from his grandfather so much about the Great Patriotic War and the victory!
YSU delegation laid a wreath at the Eternal Flame under the sounds of songs Katyusha, Victory Day and Armenian Army. However, the feast is not over: in fact for us, this day has another meaning, as 18 years ago Shushi was liberated.
Unfortunately, this holiday is not perceived by our modern generation, as it is in Russia. Here the role of propaganda is very important, as in Russian press states that only Slavonic peoples have participated in the war and defeated the enemy, and there is no mention of the Caucasian Peoples, - the Chairman of the Student Council of YSU Tsolak Akopyan.
He finds it perfectly natural that the ratio of Victory Day and the Day of Liberation of Shushi is different, because the victory in Shushi is more palpable to us. We can easily go to Artsakh, liberated Shushi and feel that this all is ours, - adds Tsolak.
YSU Student Council then moved to Yerablur, where the Artsakh Liberation War soldiers are buried. This is one of those exceptional occasions, when people go with happy faces and in good spirits.
We are proud that we have such a holiday, and the fact that it has become even more significant due to the liberation of Shushi, which is one of the brightest pages of our recent history, - said the Chairman of the Student Council of YSU Faculty of International Relations Alexander Sargsyan, and added: - Im not saying that the Armenians are warlike people, but we are always ready to defend our land and homeland, a fact proved by history.
