Today, the Rector of Yerevan State University hosted a delegation from Akhaltsikhe State University (ASU). During the meeting, Rector of Yerevan and Akhaltsikhe state universities signed a cooperation agreement.
However, before signing the agreement, the delegation and, in particular, the rector of ASU Tina Gelashvili spoke about their institutions, with 22-year history. University, created initially as a branch of the Tbilisi State University, has already started functioning and has got 5 faculties.
Rector of Akhaltsikhe State University noted the main problems fro the solutions of which it is possible to cooperate with YSU. According to Tina Gelashvili, the only faculty, preparing Armenologists, does not work for two years already. According to the Rector, despite the fact that the number of people wishing to study at this faculty is small, however, the main reason for the termination of the faculty is the lack of appropriate tutors.
Taking into consideration the possible areas of cooperation, members of the delegation before meeting with Aram Simonyan visited the Faculty of History and the Faculty of Armenian Philology, talked with the deans. Holding of the faculty meetings are planned tomorrow, too: Akhaltsikhe State University representatives will meet with heads of faculties of sociology and journalism of YSU.
As the Rector of Yerevan State Uiniversity Aram Simonyan said, Yerevan State University attaches great importance to business cooperation with the centers of education, operating in the region. He said that in this context, it does not matter how many years old the university is and how many students are enrolled in it, as the most important is the productive work.
We are supporters of a particular job. You can say that the work of rectors ends with the signing of contracts. After this, the relevant offices should implement the cooperation. YSU is cooperating with more than 160 universities, and we must admit that some of them it was limited to signing contracts or to communicate to the festive occasions. YSU will be very happy to cooperate with the University of Akhaltsikhe at least in one or two areas, but restricted to the specific work, - said Aram Simonyan.
The Messenger of Georgia to Armenia Gotcha Gvaramadze was present at the meeting, too, who promised on behalf of the Embassy strongly to promote the establishment and development of the cooperation between our universities.
As noted by the rectors of both universities, the contract is only the formal part of the cooperation for meaningful and productive work in the future to delineate those areas in which possible joint work of the two universities.
