Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence in European Studies: Democracy, Human rights and Security

Welcome to the website of the Jean Monnet Centre for Excellence in European Studies which is established at the Centre for European Studies/ CES/ of the Yerevan State University. Since 2010, CES has been involved in implementation of various Jean Monnet activities, including Jean Monnet Modules on  "European Integration and the South Caucasus" (2010) and "Migration policy challenges in the EU and the South Caucasus/ MiPEC"(2016). In 2015, CES became part of the Jean Monnet Network project "Developing European Studies in The Caucasus" (DESCnet), implemented under the coordination of Tartu University.

Since January 2025, CES has been granted Jean Monnet Centre for Excellence in European Studies with special emphasis on Democracy, Human Rights and Security /DeHuRiS /. The project objectives are to: (i) promote excellence in teaching and research in the field of the European Studies through spring, summer and winters schools, seminars, round-tables and special workshops, (ii) foster dialogue with civil society, policy makers, universities, the wider society through special annual lectures, round tables, trainings, events and press conferences, (iii) create open space for discussion, events and trainings both for BA, MA and PhD level students and beneficiaries from outside of academia, (iv) generate repository of public policy papers and articles, (v) promote transnational cooperation by generating knowledge and competence on democracy, human rights and security, (vi) involve guest lectures from regional and European universities and networks. 

All these objectives go hand in hand with CES mission, vision and activities. DeHuRiS will be implemented by the CES in cooperation with Centre partner universities from Armenia and beyond. it will offer a mixture of spring, summer and winter schools, teaching seminars & workshops, non-degree trainings for journalists, NGO representatives, state bodies, etc.
