Admission Requirements

Admission is conducted in accordance with the Procedure for Admission to State and Non-State Higher Education Institutions of the Republic of Armenia (by Bachelor’s educational programme) approved by the Government of the Republic of Armenia.

Applicants are required to sit entrance examinations in Armenian Language and Literature (written) and English (written).

Programme Objectives

The programme is designed to provide students with theoretical knowledge of English and English-language literature, introduce them to contemporary approaches, methods and trends in language teaching, and develop the advanced English communication skills required for professional engagement across diverse areas of social and professional life.

Programme Advantages

A key competitive advantage of the programme is its emphasis on the study, in English, of a diverse range of contemporary and interdisciplinary subjects, including media literacy, Legal English, English for Tourism, English-language Literature in Film, the Language and Style of English-language Science Fiction, the Language and Style of English-language Children’s Literature, Language and Politics, and others.

The programme develops students’ professional competencies in philology, familiarises them with theoretical and practical approaches applied in philological studies, and provides practical knowledge and skills relevant to diverse areas of social and professional life. Particular importance is attached to the development of critical and analytical skills, which are essential for successful future professional activity. Alongside theoretical issues in philology, the programme places strong emphasis on developing practical communication skills for professional engagement in diverse fields, including education, media, business, tourism and other sectors.

Career Opportunities

The programme is designed to prepare specialists who, through the application of contemporary professional communication skills and appropriate communication strategies, will be able to compete effectively in the labour market and establish successful professional careers.

Graduates may pursue careers in a wide range of specialised institutions and enterprises, including government bodies such as the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of the Republic of Armenia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, as well as national and international organisations such as UNICEF, USAID and the Peace Corps. They may also work in sectors related to industry, commerce, tourism and banking, as well as in any professional environment where advanced proficiency in English is required. Potential roles include manager, tour guide, press secretary, editor, and others.

Following completion of the relevant courses at YSU, graduates may teach in primary and secondary schools and secondary vocational institutions, including the State Humanitarian College, Yerevan State College of Informatics, and Yerevan Tourism Service and Food Industry Armenian-Greek State College, as well as at language centres such as ESOLAR, Universe Language and Training Centre, Ginkgo and Global Bridge.

Graduates may also continue their studies at the Master’s level.
