2. Programme Objectives
The Archaeology and Ethnology Master’s programme aims to provide future graduates with a solid foundation in the theoretical issues of archaeology and ethnology. Course topics are presented based on both the material foundations of archaeological and ethnographic cultures and contemporary theoretical and methodological approaches.
Future students will become familiar with the main theoretical literature, frameworks, and methodological approaches currently available in archaeological and ethnological research fields. The programme aims to cover the main research problems of each specialization area, highlighting the expected range of specific scientific results. All theoretical issues are presented with respect to particular historical and cultural periods.

3. Educational outcomes of the programme
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Professional knowledge and understanding
- Տիրապետել հնագիտության և ազգաբանության տեսության, մեթոդաբանության և պատմության հիմնահարցերին, հնագիտական և ազգաբանական ժամանակակից գիտակարգերի հետազոտությունների ուղղություններին:
- Մարդ-հասարակություն-հանրույթ բարդ ու բազմամակարդակ կապերն ու փոխհարաբերությունները վերլուծել հնագիտական և ազգաբանական ժամանակակից մոտեցումների ու տեսակետների համատեքստում:
- Մշակութային ժառանգության հնագիտական և ազգաբանական իմացության հիմքի վրա վերլուծել հայոց մշակույթը որպես ամբողջական, ուրույն համակարգ` փոփոխություններն ու փոխակերպումները դիտարկելով նաև տարածաշրջանային մշակույթների ու զարգացումների համատեքստում:
- Ստացած գիտելիքները կիրառել ոչ միայն հայոց մշակութային ժառանգության հնագիտական և ազգաբանական վերլուծությունների դաշտում, այլ ներկայացնել ու վերլուծել տարածաշրջանային մշակութային համալիրները:
- Practical professional skills
- Վերլուծել ու հանրայնացնել հնագիտության և ազգաբանության/մարդաբանության տեսական ու մեթոդաբանական խնդիրները, ներգրավելով նաև հայկական նյութը:
- Ավելի լայն քաղաքակրթական համատեքստում վերլուծել հայոց մշակութային ժառանգության հնագիտական և ազգաբանական բաղադրիչները:
- Հնագիտորեն և ազգաբանորեն վերլուծել և ներկայացնել մշակույթների տարածաշրջանային համալիրներն ու ենթահամալիրները:
- Կազմել և իրագործել հնագիտական և ազգաբանական բնույթի հետազոտական ու կիրառական ծրագրեր, վերահսկել դրանց կատարման ընթացքը, ապահովել արդյունքների հանրայնացումը:
- General (transferable) competences
- Օգտվել տեղեկատվության տարատեսակ աղբյուրներից (գրադարաններ, արխիվներ, ինտերնետ ռեսուրսներ, գիտական մենագրություններ և հոդվածներ):
- Անցկացնել հնագիտական և ազգաբանական դաշտային հետազոտություններ, պեղումներ, դիտարկումներ` ժամանակակից հետազոտական գործիքների կիրառմամբ, նկարագրել նյութական և ոչ նյութական մշակույթի հիմնական համալիրներ:
- Նախագծել և իրականացնել հնագիտական և ազգաբանական հետազոտություններ, ձևակերպել հետազոտության համար անհրաժեշտ հիմնական հարցադրումները, ընտրել մեթոդներն ու մեթոդաբանությունը և գործիքները:
- Ստեղծագործաբար կիրառել ձեռք բերված գիտելիքները, հանրայնացնել դրանք, ընկալել նորութային գիտելիքներն ու արժեքները:
- Պատրաստել գիտական զեկուցումներ, հաղորդումներ, հոդվածներ, գիտական միջավայրում ներկայացնել հետազոտությունների արդյունքները, մասնակցել գիտական բանավեճերի ու քննարկումների, հետազոտությունների արդյունքները հանրայնացնել զանգվածային լրատվության միջոցներով:
- Պահպանել մասնագիտական էթիկայի նորմերը:
4. Graduates future career opportunities
Graduates can continue their education in doctoral programmes at YSU (full-time and part-time), at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the NAS RA (full-time and part-time), or at universities abroad.
Master’s degree holders can work at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the NAS RA, the “Historical and Cultural Reserve-Museums and Historical Environment Protection Service” (public institution), the Research Center of Cultural Heritage, professional laboratories, governmental institutions (ministries and departments), regional administrations, municipal offices, museums, tourism, and other organizations.
