The third annual international conference initiated by the YSU Faculty of International Relations has begun. This year's conference is titled "Reimagining International Order: New Architecture of Global Governance beyond Hegemony."
The two-day conference has brought together prominent representatives from leading universities, research centers and think tanks from more than 20 countries, as well as leading political scientists and international relations experts at YSU. The event aims to discuss contemporary geopolitical transformations, crises in global governance, and prospects for developing new models of international security.
The conference's official opening ceremony was held at the YSU Charles Aznavour Culture Center.
Tigran Yepremyan, Dean of the YSU Faculty of International Relations, PhD in History and Associate Professor, delivered welcoming remarks. He emphasized the importance of reimagining the international order, particularly from Armenia, which, he said, makes it possible to examine the challenges of the international order beyond the perspectives of geopolitical centers.
Referring to Armenia's historical and political role and its distinctive geopolitical position, Yepremyan said: "For centuries, Armenia, situated at the crossroads of different civilizations and empires, has witnessed and participated in the transformation and evolution of the international order since antiquity. As a small state, Armenia provides a unique academic and analytical platform for moving beyond traditional hegemonic perspectives, examining the structural challenges of the international order from an alternative viewpoint, and rethinking the architecture of global governance."
Elina Asriyan, YSU Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, also welcomed the participants.
Professor Gao Fei, President of China Foreign Affairs University, delivered the keynote address at the conference's plenary session. He presented an extensive academic analysis titled "Promoting Improvements in Global Governance through the Vision of a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind." In his address, Professor Gao Fei discussed the characteristics of an emerging multipolar world order, new formats of international cooperation, and the need to restore mutual trust at the global level.
Over the two days of the conference, thematic panel discussions will be held, during which participants will deliver presentations and engage in active dialogue on key issues in contemporary international relations.
