About the program
The program is implemented by the Department of Armenian Literature at the Faculty of Armenian Philology, Yerevan State University (YSU).
Program Objectives
- Organize the study of centuries-old Armenian literature.
- Integrate scientific research and teaching of both branches of Modern Armenian literature: Soviet Armenian literature and Diaspora Armenian literature.
- Direct courses toward contemporary literary trends.
- Combine theoretical knowledge with practical skills of master’s students (paleographic, bibliographic, and editorial work; collaboration with literary and literary-scientific journals and websites).

Program Main Goals
- Prepare specialists with knowledge of the history of Armenian literature, the main theoretical and methodological principles of literary studies.
- Prepare specialists able to apply this knowledge in literary research.
- Prepare specialists able to apply this knowledge in educational, public, and private institutions.
Learning Outcomes
A. Professional Knowledge and Understanding
Graduates will be able to:
- Present theoretical concepts of literary studies.
- Explain current issues in literary theory.
- Present principles of professional reading of literary texts.
- Explain main principles of literary work analysis.
- Present issues of Eastern Armenian, Western Armenian, and Diaspora Armenian literature.
- Elucidate trends and features of contemporary Armenian poetry and prose.
B. Practical Professional Skills
Graduates will be able to:
- Apply knowledge in literary criticism and education.
- Identify current issues in literary studies and determine conditions for their resolution.
- Analyze and evaluate historical facts in Armenian literature.
- Analyze and evaluate newly published literary works.
- Conduct literary-critical work in literary media.
- Edit literary works and prepare them for publication.
- Annotate literary texts.
C. General (Transferable) Skills
Graduates will be able to:
- Use various information sources (archives, manuscripts, Internet, electronic libraries, scientific articles, and reports).
- Prepare literary-scientific reports, present research results, and conduct scientific debates.
- Maintain professional ethics.
Opportunities for Continuing Education
Graduates of the “Armenian Literature” program can continue studies in PhD programs.
