About the Program
The “History of the Armenian Language and General Linguistics” Master’s Program is implemented by the Chair of History of the Armenian Language and General Linguistics at the Faculty of Armenian Philology (YSU).

Program Objectives
The main goal of the program is to train comprehensive Armenian linguists with knowledge of classical languages, skills in translation and interpretation from these languages, as well as to introduce the principles of computational linguistics and machine translation.
During the program, students gain knowledge and skills for reading and describing ancient manuscripts, learn principles for preparing critical editions of Classical, Middle and Modern Armenian texts.
Another key objective is to develop research linguists—experts in Classical Armenian, dialectology, editing, and professionals in the modern labor market for computational linguistics.
Advantages
The program consists of general, mandatory professional, and elective courses. The content of the professional mandatory and elective courses covers the history of the Armenian language, general linguistics, computational linguistics, and grammatical and lexical features of classical languages, including Ancient Greek and Latin.
Upon completion of the program, students will be able to recognize the main issues in the history of the Armenian language and general linguistics, master research methods of these disciplines, and understand structural features, similarities, and differences of Classical Armenian (both classical and post-classical periods), Middle Literary Armenian, and Modern Armenian.

Graduates can continue their studies in PhD programs.
