This project aims to investigate the dynamics of cortical neural networks in animal models using state-of-the-art two-photon neuroimaging and quantitative calcium signal analysis methods, which are currently limited in availability in Armenia. Calcium imaging, based on genetically encoded indicators, enables real-time recording of neuronal activity with high spatial and temporal resolution. The study involves in vivo imaging using a cranial window surgery, analysis of neural network activity, functional connectivity, and interactions between neuronal subpopulations. A key component of the project is hands-on training in two-photon microscopy, experimental data acquisition, and quantitative processing of calcium signals. The project is designed to introduce and establish modern neuroimaging methodologies, thereby building a foundation for scientific capacity development and international collaboration.
