Researchers in mathematics, computer science and AI gather at YSU
The international conference "Applied Mathematics, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence-2026" has opened at Yerevan State University, bringing together discussions on current research and applied challenges in these fields.
The main topics addressed at the conference include the foundations of machine learning, statistical learning and data analysis, artificial intelligence in mathematics and the sciences, its applications in robotics and healthcare, algebra and mathematical logic, algorithms and computational complexity, applied statistics, cryptography, security and privacy, among others.
The conference brings together renowned scientists and young researchers from Armenia and abroad, including Russia, Norway, India and Iran.
YSU Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs Rafayel Barkhudaryan highlighted the importance of efforts to advance various scientific fields at the university, singling out mathematics and its applied areas, as well as emerging research directions, particularly studies in artificial intelligence.
Yuri Hakobyan, Dean of the YSU Faculty of Informatics and Applied Mathematics and Professor at the Chair of Numerical Analysis and Mathematical Modeling, noted that the main objectives of the conference are to advance applied mathematics and computer science, strengthen partnerships with specialists abroad and exchange new ideas, thereby contributing to the development of the field.
"The conference is dedicated to current issues in applied mathematics and computer science, as well as to one of the relatively new areas of modern science — the development and application of artificial intelligence," Hakobyan said.
According to him, the faculty's more than 50 years of activity and the expertise accumulated in the field have made it possible to organize the international conference.
"We believe the conference will be productive, foster the development of new ideas and strengthen professional ties," he emphasized.
The conference opened with a presentation by Yuri Movsisyan, Honorary Head of the Chair of Algebra and Geometry and Honorary Leading Researcher at the Laboratory of Mathematical Research. Presenting the topic "Burnside Varieties," he addressed the concepts of Burnside varieties and hypervarieties, Birkhoff's theorems, and other related topics. According to the professor, the topic is relevant to algebra and mathematical logic. At the end of his presentation, Yuri Movsisyan also outlined 10 problems that remain unsolved and, according to him, require further research.
The conference was organized at the initiative of the YSU Faculty of Informatics and Applied Mathematics, the Armenian Mathematical Union and the YSU-Krisp AI Laboratory. It will conclude on October 9.
The special issue of YSU Bulletin "A. Physical and Mathematical Sciences" will feature research presented at the conference. The submitted articles will be published in the special issue after the peer-review process.
