YSU expands international cooperation in environmental protection; hosts Chinese Academy of Environmental Planning delegation
Representatives of the Chinese Academy of Environmental Planning (CAEP) visited the Chair of Ecology and Nature Conservation at the YSU Faculty of Biology. The meeting aimed to discuss prospects for bilateral cooperation, experience sharing and joint research projects.
During the visit, Karen Ghazaryan, Dean of the YSU Faculty of Biology, gave the delegation a detailed overview of the faculty's structure, the main research areas of its laboratories and achievements in recent years.
The Chinese partners, in turn, expressed strong interest in environmental protection efforts in Armenia and recent legislative reforms. The discussion also covered the Smart Biodiversity Monitoring System introduced in Beijing's Mentougou District as a successful example of innovation in the field. The system uses artificial intelligence and modern sensors to ensure effective ecosystem monitoring.
After presenting their respective work and sharing experience, the two sides discussed practical next steps. In particular, they agreed to organize an online working meeting in the near future, primarily to launch the process for the YSU Faculty of Biology and the Chinese Academy of Environmental Planning to apply jointly for international grant programs.
Such meetings and the study of cutting-edge technologies are particularly valuable for developing future research programs at the Chair of Ecology and Nature Conservation and adapting modern approaches to ecosystem management to local conditions, in full alignment with YSU's internationalization strategy.
Notably, at the invitation of the Chinese Academy of Environmental Planning, Karen Ghazaryan also delivered a presentation as a guest speaker at the China Pavilion in the Blue Zone during the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity, addressing several environmental challenges related to Armenia's land resources.
