Prospects for development of legal education and research discussed: Grant Hanessian visits YSU
Grant Hanessian, a prominent independent arbitrator based in New York, renowned for his specialization in international investment and complex commercial disputes, visited Yerevan State University, where he met with the university’s Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan.

As a visiting lecturer, Grant Hanessian is also involved in the "International Courts and Arbitration" master’s program at YSU Faculty of Law.
During the meeting, YSU Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Elina Asriyan, Vice-Rector for Development and Innovation Mikayel Hovhannisyan, Head of the "International Courts and Arbitration" master’s program Yeghishe Kirakosyan, Dean of the Faculty of Law Harutyun Khachikyan, and Grant Hanessian discussed opportunities for collaboration in the fields of international arbitration and law, as well as initiatives aimed at fostering development in these areas.

Speaking about the main directions of the university’s activities, the rector presented YSU’s international cooperation programs and the various opportunities available to students and young researchers. He also highlighted the activities of the Friends of YSU Foundation, internal grants, international accreditation of educational programs, partnerships with universities abroad, and academic exchange programs.
"I am glad that we had the opportunity to meet today and discuss the prospects of our cooperation. I hope that our partnership will be long-lasting," stated Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan.
Vice-Rector Mikayel Hovhannisyan emphasized that the "International Courts and Arbitration" master’s program holds significant potential not only in promoting academic research but also in equipping mid-career professionals. According to him, the program, through its focus on specific legal issues, plays an essential role in strengthening the connection between research and education.
"At the academic level, there is a need to produce research papers that address specific legal issues. I believe this program and its department can serve as a favorable environment to achieve this goal," he noted.

Dean of the Faculty of Law Harutyun Khachikyan stressed the importance of Grant Hanessian’s contribution to the development of legal education, stating that his expertise and involvement in the academic program not only enrich the educational process but also foster the link between legal education and practical law.
Also present at the meeting was Sergey Berberyan, a graduate of the master’s program, who emphasized the program’s effectiveness and expressed that it was a great honor for him to have graduated from such a high-quality academic program and to have worked with leading experts and professors.
"Arbitral proceedings and legal frameworks are evolving daily and hold strategic importance. I am convinced that Grant Hanessian’s involvement in this process is greatly appreciated by both students and experts in the field. His support and professional presence elevate not only the quality of this academic program but also legal education as a whole," noted Sergey Berberyan.
At the end of the meeting, YSU rector presented Grant Hanessian with the Zabel Yesayan Commemorative Medal, symbolizing the new and long-term friendship established between Yerevan State University and Grant Hanessian.
