BioExpo-2025: Science, education, and innovation on one platform
For the fifth consecutive year, BioExpo, initiated by the Faculty of Biology at Yerevan State University, has been held, establishing itself as a traditional platform that unites education, science, and the business sector. The main objective of the exhibition is to present the faculty's educational and research programs, the professional development opportunities available to students and graduates, as well as to provide essential information about current trends in the biological sciences and the demands of the labor market.
During the event, various chairs of the YSU Faculty of Biology presented their activities, emphasizing the importance of both academic and applied sciences. School students had the opportunity to interact directly with the faculty's lecturers, researchers, and students, exploring different branches of biology—from molecular biology to ecology, biochemistry, and genetics. This interaction contributed to the participants' professional orientation and the expansion of their scientific knowledge.
YSU Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan and Armenian Minister of Environment Hambardzum Matevosyan toured the faculty's booths, familiarizing themselves with the scientific works, student projects, and interactive displays prepared for school students. They highly praised the faculty's initiative, emphasizing that BioExpo serves as a platform that fosters scientific thinking and stimulates the younger generation's interest in the natural sciences.
BioExpo is distinguished not only by its academic focus but also by its ability to bring together representatives from various institutions and companies operating in the field of biology. Individual booths featured organizations employing the faculty's graduates—including research institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, public administration bodies, clinical diagnostic laboratories, and leading companies in the fields of environmental protection, food industry, and biotechnology.
Speaking about the exhibition, the Dean of the Faculty of Biology, Karen Ghazaryan, noted, "The now-traditional BioExpo is a unique scientific and academic 'celebration' for our faculty. It brings together representatives from science, education, and industry, creating a platform for communication and collaboration. This is an exceptional opportunity for both school and university students to understand the broad horizons that biology offers—from fundamental research to applied sciences and innovative technologies."
Speaking about what makes this year stand out, Karen Ghazaryan added, "This year, we decided to assess school students' level of professional awareness. The chairs prepared thematic questions, and students who answered them correctly received coupons and gifts. This format stimulated their interest and fostered an engaging, game-based environment for learning."
The dean noted that the number of participants this year significantly exceeded previous years', which, in his view, demonstrates the event's effectiveness and the growing interest it continues to generate.
"We consider this one of the best indicators of our team's and faculty's performance. BioExpo has become a platform where science becomes accessible, applicable, and inspiring," pointed out Karen Ghazaryan.
