Discussion of Edward Said's Orientalism at YSU
On April 30, 2026, at 14:30, the YSU Sarkis and Marie Izmirlian Library will host a discussion of literary critic and cultural theorist Edward Said's book Orientalism, organized in cooperation between the ARI Literature Foundation and the YSU Library.
The book was published in Armenian with the support of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
The discussion will focus on issues related to East–West relations, contemporary political developments, and questions of identity. The moderator of the event is Tigran Grigoryan, senior specialist in the contemporary art and publishing sector of the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports and art historian. Speakers include Mariam Elmasyan, Arab studies scholar and lecturer at the YSU Faculty of Oriental Studies; Hayk Kocharyan, Head of the YSU Chair of Arabic Studies, PhD in History; and Samvel Karapetyan, Arab studies scholar, linguist, PhD in Philology.
