Information Systems Development
Master's programme
The Master’s Degree Programme in Information Systems Development is a long-standing academic programme designed to meet contemporary industry requirements and technological developments. The programme originates from the Master's programme in Mathematical and Software Support for Computers, Complexes, Systems, and Networks, which was offered by the Chair of Algorithmic Languages of the Faculty of Informatics and Applied Mathematics from 1999 to 2007. It represents a further enhancement of the programme of the same name implemented at the YSU Educational and Research Center for Information Technologies between 2008 and 2016. The programme has been developed based on the State Educational Standard in Information Technologies.
The curriculum has been benchmarked against the following international programmes:
Lomonosov Moscow State University – Fundamental Informatics and Information Technologies;
Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv – Theory and Technology of Programming;
Stanford University – Computer Science;
Kiel University (Germany) – Information Systems.
Applicants holding a Bachelor’s degree in any natural science discipline may apply provided they possess sufficient knowledge of computer science-related subjects, practical programming experience, and English language proficiency at a minimum of A2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
The programme aims to provide students with the knowledge and understanding required for the development of information systems, including theoretical foundations of computer science, domain analysis, and decision-making processes. It also develops practical professional competencies in information systems implementation and the supervision of new application development, as well as transferable skills that support long-term professional growth, such as the effective use of diverse information sources, creative application of acquired knowledge, resource planning, and adherence to professional ethical standards.
Upon completion of the programme, graduates will be able to explain the theoretical foundations of computer science, formulate principles of system design and implementation, develop information systems, design databases, participate in systems software development projects, design and test digital circuits, develop dynamic web and network applications, prepare scientific papers and presentations, and engage in academic discussions and research activities.
Graduates of the Information Systems Development programme may pursue careers in information technology companies, educational institutions, and research organizations. Employment opportunities include positions such as software and systems developer, information systems architect, information technology specialist, project team leader, or lecturer in computer science-related disciplines.
Graduate employment statistics from the past decade demonstrate that programme alumni successfully secure professional positions in their field both in Armenia and internationally. Outstanding graduates may continue their studies in doctoral programmes at Yerevan State University, the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, the Russian-Armenian University, and other research and higher education institutions.
