On October 14 of this year, the "Career Guidance Day in Armenia" event was held, organized by the Chair of German Philology at Yerevan State University, the Goethe-Institut Armenia, the Yerevan office of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the Central Agency for Schools Abroad (ZFA), and the German Economic Association. The event was specifically designed for students in Armenian schools who study the German language.
During the event, representatives from twelve German universities presented students and pupils with information about higher education opportunities in Germany and the procedures for university admission.
The event was attended by Siranush Dvoyan, Chairperson of the Language Committee of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, and Lars Hennig, Deputy Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Armenia. In her opening remarks, Siranush Dvoyan emphasized the importance and role of such initiatives in the fields of education and culture. She noted that these events contribute to strengthening and deepening the cooperation between Armenia and Germany and further developing Armenian-German relations. She also highlighted that these initiatives not only promote educational and cultural collaboration but also enhance the friendly ties between the two countries.
Deputy Ambassador Lars Hennig stated that the event allows participants to explore and choose German universities, paving the way for higher education in Germany, while also promoting the German language and presenting a positive image of contemporary Germany to Armenia.
"Language here is the primary foundation through which trust and recognition of German culture are established," the deputy ambassador emphasized.
Gayane Savoyan, Head of the Chair of German Philology at Yerevan State University, noted that German universities attract Armenian students because the diplomas of Armenian general education schools are officially recognized in Germany. With the appropriate level of German language proficiency, applicants are eligible to participate in German university admission competitions. She also emphasized that the event will promote the teaching of German both in schools and universities, as well as contribute to expanding cooperation between YSU and German universities.
The event was attended by representatives from the University of Aachen, University of Bamberg-Weiden, Free University of Berlin, European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder), Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, Ruhr University Bochum, University of Stralsund, University of Greifswald, University of Koblenz, University of Würzburg-Schweinfurt, and University of Baden-Württemberg, as well as from the Higher Education Institution of Meppen, the Goethe-Institut Armenia, and the Goethe-Institut’s partner, the Language Center of Yerevan.
Several German international organizations operating in Armenia, which also offer scholarships for studying in Germany (such as the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Heinrich Böll Foundation, and the German Academic Exchange Service), were represented at dedicated booths.
