The Chair of German Philology hosted a scientific seminar led by lecturer Gayane Meltonyan, who presented a report titled "Using Digital Media in Foreign Language Teaching: Several Aspects of Media Didactics."
The topic is particularly relevant as it addresses the effective use of various types of digital media in the foreign language teaching process.
Meltonyan provided an overview of widely used digital resources, including WhatsApp, Google Meet, Facebook, and Messenger, as well as the Padlet platform and podcasts from well-known German educational platforms such as DW News, DW Deutsch Lernen, and Deutschlandlabor, which are used in foreign language instruction.
She emphasized that, given the wide range of available digital resources, it is important to select media-didactic materials in a purposeful and systematic way and combine them with different forms of learning activities, including individual and group work and the creation of new learning content. She also highlighted the evolving role of the teacher, who increasingly serves as a facilitator and learning companion.
The speaker further noted that integrating media into the teaching process offers numerous advantages. It enhances the authenticity and naturalness of foreign language instruction by creating real-life language situations. Other key benefits include personalized learning, greater interactivity through quizzes, educational applications and online platforms, a multimedia approach incorporating text, images, audio and video, increased learner motivation, the development of intercultural communication skills, and the promotion of social interaction and collaborative learning among students.
