A workshop titled "Azerbaijan's State Language Policy and Issues in the Exercise of the Linguistic Rights of Indigenous Peoples: General Education Textbooks and Related Issues" was held at the Chair of Iranian Studies of the YSU Faculty of Oriental Studies.
The scholarly event was held as part of the thematic research project "Language Endangerment in Azerbaijan: A Study of State Language Policy and Sociolinguistic Behavior of Indigenous Peoples, with a focus on Iranian Languages (Kurdish, Talysh and Tat)" (code: 24SSAH-6B028). The project is funded by the Higher Education and Science Committee of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of the Republic of Armenia, based on the results of the "Research in Social Sciences, Armenian Studies and Humanities – 2024" grant competition.
The workshop was also attended by the project's international partner, Professor Jaffer Sheyholislami of Carleton University (Ottawa, Canada), as well as specialists in the field, researchers and students.
Discussions focused on the protection of the linguistic rights of indigenous peoples in Azerbaijan belonging to the Iranian language group - Kurds, Talysh and Tats - the content of general education textbooks, and the impact of state language policy on the preservation of endangered languages.
