The presentation of the book "The Republic of Turkey and its Unresolved Issues. 100 Years and Beyond" was held at YSU Faculty of Oriental Studies, in collaboration with the Center for Advanced Middle Eastern Studies at Lund University (Sweden). The event took place on the eve of the Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day, emphasizing the significance of historical justice and scientific objectivity.
Ruben Melikonyan, Dean of YSU Faculty of Oriental Studies, highlighted the academic importance of the initiative, stating, "Science knows no boundaries. It has one value—truth. On the eve of the Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day, we raise the unresolved issues that still persist. The question of the Armenian Genocide is particularly significant for us, as it remains relevant both in scientific discourse and public discussion."
The book, published by one of the world’s most prominent academic publishers, Palgrave Macmillan, addresses the unresolved issues accumulated throughout the existence of the Republic of Turkey. Unique for its open-access format and interdisciplinary approach, the book blends history, politics, sociology, economics, and psychology. It critically examines topics often overlooked or deliberately ignored, such as the genocides of Armenians and Dersims, "unusual" resistance movements, environmental struggles, and debates on "urban rights."
Valuing the significant contribution of the Center for Advanced Middle Eastern Studies at Lund University to academic collaboration, at the conclusion of the event, Professor Svante Lundgren from the Center for Advanced Middle Eastern Studies was awarded YSU Silver Medal. This award was given in recognition of his work towards the international recognition of Armenian studies and justice, as well as for his pro-Armenian activities and long-standing fruitful collaboration with YSU.
