On March 12-13, Moscow hosted an international forum titled "Scientific Diplomacy in Russian-Armenian Relations."
The event was organized through a joint initiative of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Primakov Center for Foreign Policy Cooperation.
Professor Ruben Melkonyan, Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies at Yerevan State University (YSU) and Doctor of Historical Sciences, delivered a welcoming address and presented an expert report during the proceedings.
Participating in the plenary session, Professor Melkonyan provided an in-depth analysis of the role of scientific diplomacy in Armenian-Russian relations and the cooperation between educational institutions within the context of current global realities.
During a roundtable discussion dedicated to the role of experts in Armenia-Russia relations, Melkonyan shared his vision for moving beyond outdated stereotypes to foster bilateral relations that are more aligned with contemporary situations and mutual interests.
The forum primarily focused on the development prospects of Armenian-Russian scientific cooperation as a vital instrument for diplomacy and expert dialogue. Participants specifically addressed current changes in the South Caucasus, emerging security challenges and matters of economic interaction.
In the framework of his visit, Ruben Melkonyan held a series of meetings with representatives from YSU's partner organizations, including A. Alikberov, Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and V. Naumkin. These discussions aimed at implementing new joint projects and expanding institutional cooperation.
