The Faculty of International Relations at Yerevan State University hosted the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom to Armenia, Alexandra Cole, who delivered a lecture on the art of diplomacy, followed by a discussion on key issues of mutual interest.
Opening the event, Dean of the Faculty, Associate Professor Tigran Yepremyan, underscored the importance of close cooperation with diplomatic missions. He noted that such discussions provide a valuable platform for students to gain first-hand insight into current global political trends and the nuances of diplomatic practice.
In her remarks, Ambassador Cole offered a comprehensive overview of the historical development and current dynamics of Armenian–British relations, placing particular emphasis on the importance of strengthening democratic values and expanding economic cooperation.
She also outlined the United Kingdom's approach to regional security issues and spoke about educational and cultural programs that enable Armenian students to further their studies at leading British universities. The ambassador commended the high level of preparedness of YSU students and highlighted their potential role in building bridges between the two countries in the future.
The meeting took place in an interactive format. Future international relations specialists and diplomats had the opportunity to address questions to the high-ranking guest. The questions mainly focused on complex geopolitical developments, the United Kingdom's foreign policy priorities, and the use of soft power.
Responding to students' questions, the ambassador shared insights from her professional experience and offered practical advice, encouraging students to continuously develop their analytical and critical thinking and to remain proactive.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continuing educational cooperation and to holding similar discussions on a regular basis.
