Within the framework of the APPEAR Academic Project 373 implemented at the YSU Chair of Botany and Mycology, a stakeholder workshop titled "Biodiversity of Fungi in Armenia: Advancing Towards COP17," was held.
The workshop brought together representatives from the academic community, government agencies, research centers, and field experts to review the project's progress, present key findings, and discuss development directions.
Participants shared results of ongoing research on the species composition of fungi in Armenia, including the identification of newly recorded species. Particular attention was given to the importance of studying fungal diversity in Armenia and its relevance to the global biodiversity conservation agenda, especially in the context of preparations for COP17.
The workshop also included active discussions on the development of educational programs, the integration of research components into curricula, and capacity-building opportunities in the biological sciences. Stakeholders provided valuable feedback and recommendations regarding alignment with labor market demands. The interactive format facilitated an open and productive exchange among participants.
The event concluded with a shared commitment to continued collaboration and to supporting the successful implementation of the project.
The outcomes are expected to contribute to further refinement of the project, strengthening its sustainability and overall impact. They are also anticipated to play an important role in advancing Armenia's scientific capacity and biodiversity conservation initiatives in line with international processes, including the COP17 agenda.
