On May 18, on the occasion of the International Fascination of Plants Day, the Chair of Botany and Mycology at the YSU Faculty of Biology organized a scientific-educational seminar and tree-planting event dedicated to the importance of plants and the conservation of biodiversity.
The event, organized ahead of COP17, aimed to highlight the importance and urgent necessity of preserving plants, forest ecosystems, and biodiversity in general in the context of contemporary environmental challenges.
During the seminar, the role of plants in ecosystem stability, climate regulation, human health, food security, and the preservation of natural resources was presented in detail.
Particular attention was paid to the rich diversity of Armenia's flora, as well as the vital importance of preserving endemic and rare species. In this context, the role of scientific research and education in nature conservation and restoration was especially emphasized.
The study of plants was noted as having not only academic significance but also serving as an important foundation for the sustainable management of biodiversity, environmental policymaking, and public ecological awareness.
The seminar was followed by a tree-planting initiative in the Hrazdan Gorge. Participants contributed to improving the city's ecological environment and supporting biodiversity conservation. The symbolic and practical initiative aimed to enhance Yerevan's green spaces, protect natural areas, and promote a responsible attitude toward nature.
The initiative by the Chair of Botany and Mycology was intended not only to mark the occasion but also to encourage young people's interest in plant studies, environmental protection, and biodiversity conservation. The preservation of nature begins with knowledge, care, and concrete action.
