General information
This project establishes a pioneering scientific partnership between Moldova and Armenia to address the critical conservation status of bats, a highly vulnerable group of mammals and key ecosystem indicators. In Moldova, 16 of 21 species are endangered; in Armenia, 10 of 30 are protected.
The initiative will conduct standardized field surveys across both countries to assess the diversity, distribution, and status of rare bat species, with a focus on anthropogenic and climatic threats. By creating a joint database, strengthening regional capacity, and raising public awareness through events like "Bat Night" the project aims to provide science-based evidence for Red List updates and conservation policies.
This collaboration will launch a sustainable research network in the Black Sea basin, enhancing regional cooperation and visibility in international conservation efforts.
